Microsoft Windows 8.1 'Blue' public preview coming on June at Build 2013 at San Francisco

Build 2013, the Microsoft's developer conference, will be the occasion to show the world a developer release of Windows 8.1, codenamed 'Blue'.

Microsoft will take this opportunity to show the public preview of Windows 8.1 which will have a final version before the end of the year. Some leaked beta builds of Windows 8.1 have showed several changes and cosmetic enhancements. Other features are expected such as larger and smaller Live Tiles, an enhanced start screen, better customization for themes and colors, an updated side-by-side app view, which boosts multitasking efficiency by displaying two applications with matching width, a Play option under the Devices panel, a screenshot button on the Share sidebar, and Internet Explorer 11. Developers will be able to take a closer look to Windows 8.1 next summer.

Microsoft Windows 8.1 has improved support for 7- and 8-inch devices, and is also improving its settings panel on the "Metro" side of Windows 8.1, with more options available without having to access the desktop mode.

All these changes are really minor details, nothing that completely redefine a change of platform, and they come as improvements to the last major change experienced by the company, which was Windows 8. Some people see them as Service Packs, but unlike the latter, will bring substantial changes to the GUI and add surface features, not only fix vulnerabilities and bugs.
